My Favorite Top 10 Comedy Venues
Being a Comedian for at least 20 decades now, I could honestly state I have done in the worst areas and the best places in the nation. I'll concentrate on the top areas because I think comedy ought to be a joyful event rather than a downer. What makes a Comedy Club enjoyable and successful is the appropriate setting. It is all about atmosphere, seating arrangement and most of all, the closeness factor. Comedy is a romantic medium that constantly works best in smaller venues of 400 seats or less. The bigger the place, the less the crowd is part of their encounter. I feel that Comedy Clubs and tiny Theaters are the best, particularly for a crowd worker such as myself. With all That Said, this is my list:
My Favourite Comedy Venues Of All Time 1. The First Improv(NYC, NY)- This bar has been the Grandaddy of all Comedy Clubs. It had been the first and truly the best. It was nice and small, about 100 chairs, intimate, and had such an atmosphere about it. When you're on that stage, you knew that the likes of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce and anybody else you can imagine in Comedy, had performed there until you. What a great place it was. I miss it dearly and the owner, Silver Friedman, was fantastic to me.
2. It held around 225 seats smoothly and there wasn't a poor one in the house. It was a rectangular room with the stage on one of the extended walls, so each chair was close to the stage.
3. Being a real headliner myself, I never get to see other headliners unless we're all on precisely the exact same invoice doing a gain of some kind. However, with the TV series, I was the Director and writer for the show and I got to see everyone that came through every week. I really had a blast and the series lasted for about 9 decades.
4. The acoustics are incredible and it's just the ideal size for a theater to do comedy in.
5. It reminds me of The Original Improv with it is closeness of only around 100 chairs. It's a fantastic restaurant too and also the owners, Dino & Jerry, are a pleasure to work for.
6. The Comedy Stop at The Trop(Atlantic City, NJ) - What a great place. It's similar to a mini theater of around 250 chairs with each the casino showroom aura a comedian loves to perform in. The room has since moved into the new Quarter Wing upstairs and is a little larger and even nicer than before. Fantastic atmosphere.
7. Just around 180 seats and nice and near the stage. All views have no obstructions whatsoever and it's found in one beautiful resort.
